BISCAST, Naga City – The Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology (BISCAST) hosted on Tuesday, March 26 the 1st Kulinaria Bikolandia 2019, a culinary showdown.
Students from different schools in Camarines Sur participated in the event brought by Department of Agriculture (DA), and Provincial Government of Camarines Sur.
With the theme “Enriching the local food heritage, promoting food sustainability and practices”, participants were able to show their skills in cooking and presenting Bicolano dishes.
Event Organizer Emelyn Salgado said that the cultural project aims to showcase the historical culinary background of Bicolanos and to encourage the youth to be reacquainted with this rich and proud local heritage in culinary.
“Bicolano families are fond of having a mix of various dishes on one dining table and it reflects almost all the characteristics of culture such as history, language, geography, values, norms and practices”, Salgado said.
Winners of said event are Naga College Foundation (Champion), University of Nueva Caceres (1st Runner Up), and Universidad de Santa Isabel (2nd Runner Up).
Meanwhile, BISCAST Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Dr. Isidro R. Bola said that he is grateful that the province of Camarines Sur chose BISCAST to be the venue of the 1st Kulinaria Bikolandia 2019.
“We are happy to welcome everyone and I hope that the goal of this event will be realized especially in keeping Bicolano culture and dishes alive”, Bola added.
