BISCAST, Naga City –BISCAST’s Red Cross Youth (RCY) is now ready for more challenging competitions after winning 1st Runner Up in the recently concluded School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) First Aid Olympics held last July 5 at Capitol Complex, Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur.
The team is composed of Gino Nino Agnabo (Team Leader); Jean Boncodin, Maria Viluzlyn Yepes, Ailen Monte, and Ma. Angela Alexa Galang (Treatment Officers); Jericho Buendia, Christian Collantes and Mc Dermiel Dumo (Bearer/Rescuer); Lloyd Daniel Paulo (Logistic Officer); Christian Albert Sta. Rosa (Crowd Control); Alyssa Ma Ricafort (Documenter/Endorsement) and Aailyah Nina Velasco (Communication Officer).
RCY Adviser Ricardo Atole said in an interview that he is so proud of the team despite the two-week preparation.
Atole said, “The students adjusted their time for rigid training and constant skills enhancement for this competition. I know we have lapses but all of us knew what we need to improve.”
He added that he always reminds the team to continuously train to be equipped with skills that are useful not only in competitions but also in real-life situations.
The aforementioned event was part of the province’s celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month and was sponsored by the Provincial Government, and Environment Disaster Management Response Office (EDMERO).
It was intended to showcase the knowledge and responsive skills of young volunteers in times of disaster and unexpected events.
Aside from a plaque, the team went home with five sacks of rice and Php10,000 cash.
Seven schools in Camarines Sur with established Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) competed in the First Aid Olympics particularly on the following categories: bandaging relay, splinting relay, transfer relay and basic life support.
Among other competitors are University of Nueva Caceres (UNC), Ateneo de Naga University (AdNU), Camarines Sur National High School (CSNHS), Community College, Central Bicol State of Agriculture (CBSUA) – Pasacao, and San Juan National High in Libmanan.
Meanwhile, Atole said that they are planning to participate in international competitions to expose the team in more challenging situations.
BISCAST-RCY was also hailed by the Supreme Student Council (SSC) as Most Outstanding Campus Organization in 2017.
